Perlite has a very low thermal conductivity, it does not burn, it is unaffected by moisture and it is very durable. Perlite is used to fill the space between the walls of tankers.
Vermiculite

The structure of vermiculite creates a suitable environment for growing plants. It is often used in fertiliser composition, mixed with peat and perlite. Vermiculite provides the most suitable environment for plant growth when mixed with perlite and peat at a 1:1:2 ratio.
